A side-by-side

Unreal Workbooks vs. Covenant Books.

Both will design and publish your Christian book. The difference is whose account it sits in, what you earn on each copy and what you sign. Every Covenant line below comes from Covenant's own website and contract.

What you pay Base package: $595, then 10 monthly payments of $249 ($3,085 in all). Prices for their larger packages aren't published.2 $2,500, half to start and half when you approve the final files. Then $100 a month from launch for your website and ongoing help. After 12 months, cancel any time.
Whose Amazon account Covenant is listed as the publisher on your ISBN and holds the right to sell it.2 Yours. The book lives in your own Amazon account, in your name. We set it up and walk you through it.
Who sets the price Determined by Publisher with material input from Author.2 You. Change it whenever you like.
What you earn per copy What the stores pay, less Covenant's 5% fee. Covenant prices print books so you earn roughly $3 a copy.1 Everything Amazon pays, straight to you. We take nothing. A 200-page paperback at $14.99 earns you about $5.59 a copy.3
Your own copies 40% off the retail price, plus shipping. About $9 a copy for a $14.99 book.2 Amazon's printing cost, plus shipping. About $3.40 for a 200-page black-and-white paperback.3
The contract Covenant holds the exclusive worldwide right to publish your book in print and ebook. Two-year terms that renew by themselves, with a renewal fee (currently $64 a year). To leave, give written notice 60 days before a term ends.2 No exclusive rights. 12 months of monthly support, then month to month. Leave whenever you like after that.
Your rights and files Yours. Covenant hands over the files free when you ask.2 Yours: your words, the rights, the finished files, your Amazon account and your web address.

Covenant Books has no connection to Unreal Workbooks. Their terms can change, so ask them for their current contract before you sign.

To be fair

When Covenant may suit you better.

  • You'd rather spread the cost over 10 months than pay half up front.
  • You want a publisher’s name on your book instead of your own.
  • You never want to log in to Amazon, even with someone walking you through it.
